Spotsylvania County
Spotsylvania County was formed in 1721, named after Alexander Spotswood, Colonial Governor of Virginia. It is one of the largest counties in the area, and features numerous outdoor activities, historic attractions, shopping and dining.
Four major Civil War battles were fought in Spotsylvania, including the Battle of Chancellorsville, in which Stonewall Jackson was shot and mortally wounded by Confederate soldiers who mistook him for a Union cavalry force. Tour the Civil War Life Museum, Spotsylvania National Military Park, and the Confederate Cemetery.
Lake Anna is a State Park with over 200 miles of shoreline, offering many outdoor activities including boating, swimming, and fishing. Other area attractions include campgrounds, wineries and marinas.
