Stafford County

Stafford County is a scenic area that combines rich history with modern living.  It was established in 1664 and named after the town of Staffordshire, England.  Located halfway between Richmond and Washington, DC, Stafford contains over one thousand acres of parks, and over 65 percent of its total land is forested.  The beautiful Rappahannock River borders the southern end of the county.  Stafford is also home to the Quantico Marine Base, which encompasses over 30,000 acres of land

George Washington grew up in his family?s home in Ferry Farm, which is located in the southern part of the county.  Today, visitors can tour the famous building, as well as other historical sites such as Aquia Church and Chatham Manor.  In the eastern portion of the county, Marlborough Point marks the location in which the famous native princess, Pocahontas, was captured by English settlers and taken to Jamestown.
